LeBron Gone?

Well fuck it. We live, breath and shit NBA. It's Pavlovian and anal fixation all rolled into a fat, jolly nut dripping down the triangle used both to call us to dinner and as rectal dildo. All that said, we are definitely going to be visiting the LeBron Sweepstakes and the rumors this event shall excite. Seeing that this is the first entry dealing with the stated purpose of this site(and please bear with us as we figure out our format. We will become rather more random in our prose but less random in presentation) and this story is bound to keep sprouting dual heads to every one that is cut off, I might as well explain our project as I discuss this LeBron FA hydra.

When a player's marketability leads a sports network to put the following piece up on cable and net alike, you know you are dealing with hype that requires no hyperbole to describe.

When a role player changes teams and can make a statement which excites the following commentary, you know you are dealing with someone desperately seeking words to fill a column and marketable images to put on screen.

When a basketball player is compared to football greats, excites comparisons to what the 2 basketball MJs could do in one body, wins his first MVP award on the merit of his supreme stat totals, commands interest even as he sits home during the NBA finals playing with his puppets, you might understand why his FA situation will be news worthy and you will certainly understand why the networds and sites built on sports hyperbol have exploded with commentary. But, it is up to us to hold said members of the press, and the sports world, accountable for their words. Just because some of the shit sticks, don't change the fact you've been slinging poop.

So, here is what we'll be exploring here on this site. With all the hype that surounds sports, with competition in the internet, with the exteme marketing of sport personalities (or their lack there of) one finds that writers have a vested interest in disproportionately reporting on hype inducing stories. They angle for story lines that can be easily piggy backed on previous stories and the hype they induced. This LeBron thing ain't going away until about this time next year. We are going to discuss the various attempts that media and the heads that reports it, the teams and the labors that support them, the players and the agents that represent them, use our ignorance to lend themselves a prop by which to forward even the most noble of agendas.

As Tacitus warned the Romans by contrast to this about the Germans, "No one in Germany laughs at vice, nor do they call it the fashion to corrupt and to be corrupted."

So, to the actual discussion that the Ariza comment and LeBron's denunciation brings up. Now, Ariza may or may not be telling the truth. He certainly has less interest in lying about that conversation then LeBron has in squashing the story. What does Ariza get out of pissing off the most powerful player in the NBA? Meanwhile LeBron gets considerable power by being the gatekeeper of information about his FA considerations. Broussard certainly has an interest in injecting some purr into the hype. So, with all the commentary on commentary this story excites, it is up to us to make note of the commentary and measure it up against what will happen come the FA period of 2010. This is what this site is about.

We'll not limit ourselves to the NBA 2010 FA frenzy. We are interesting in discussing and tabulating all the rumour mongering. I will definitely focus almost exclusively on the NBA as it's the NBA which I am almost exclusively interested in. But, if anyone out there wants to get involved in MLB, the major college sports, NFL or even NHL or tennis, then we will be happy to have a look and possibly post your work and keep tabs on those stories. In other words, we are looking for talent.

That said, who is the puppet, LeBron and Kobe or we who buy into the hype?
